Solar Heating for Swimming Pools
As the temperature required for most pools is quite low typically under 30°C. Swimming pools are an ideal application for solar water heating. The problem with the older flat panel designs is that you only gain any benefit for a few months in the summer, however the Solar Essence is designed specifically to operate all year round.
If you used flat plates, a rule of thumb for calculating what you need is to fit the equivalent of 50% of the pool's surface area. With our advanced Solar Essence collector range, this is reduced to around 25% - and of course, they will carry on working in the autumn, winter and spring.
Installation is relatively simple. Heat transfer fluid is circulated through the
solar collectors and then through a purpose built heat exchanger manufactured by
market leaders bowman. The high performance heat exchanger is simply integrated into
your existing pool pipe work and filtration circuit. Temperature sensors compare
the collector temperature to that of the pool, and allow a pump to transfer heat
into the pool water. Compare the Solar Essence swimming pool heating system to the
cost of heating a pool for a year!
What about the UK weather?
As with all Solar Essence systems they are designed to operate all year round. As such we are the market leaders in supplying ‘UK climate' solar energy heating systems. Our advanced solar systems are designed for our climate, and use the very latest technology to provide performance in temperatures as low as 28°C, and even on overcast days. Don't forget, you can sit by your pool on a cloudy day and still get sun burnt!
Solar Essence pool systems are a bespoke product. They are purpose designed to meet your requirements and those of your pool.
How well can solar energy heat your pool?
Solar energy is just another fuel that can heat your pool. A properly designed solar
system can achieve the same results as other fuels. 65%-75% of annual radiation occurs
during the average swimming season - why not utilise it! By heating your pool with
solar energy, you will spend more time enjoying it and spend less on your energy
bill.
Is a solar pool system easy to operate?
Our solar pool systems are fully automatic. It is a necessity that your pool filtration pump is operating at the moment that solar heat is available for the pool, if not then the solar heat can damage the heat exchanger as it would do if you had a pool boiler trying to transfer heat through the exchanger with no circulation. To aid this we also install a relay circuit which automatically runs your pool filtration pump on when there is solar heat available. However should you run your filtration pump constantly then this would not be needed.
Temperature sensors compare the collector temperature to the pool temperature and if required allows the pump to transfer solar heat into the pool.
Where are the solar collectors mounted?
We can design a system to suit your surroundings and individual requirements. The solar collectors can be mounted on a roof, the ground on ‘A’ frames or even on a flat roof. They can also be screened to blend in with your garden environment.
