C - combi systems

Providing mains pressure hot water that integrates with your existing combi boiler. The exact specification of the system will depend on wether your combi boiler can except preheated water or not. This will be decided when your technical survey is carried out. Most of the modern ones can.

If your combi boiler cannot except preheated water then we will install your system with a 2 two port valve arrangement. What this means is that when your new un vented solar cylinder comes up to temperature ie: 55°c then the valves will divert the supply of your hot water from your combi boiler to your solar cylinder. The cylinders come as standard with a mixing valve to ensure the temperature never exceeds a safe temperature at your taps. Your boiler will not have to heat any water on demand at this time as this hot water will at your taps will have come from your solar system.

If your combi boiler is heat sensing then we use a patented combi valve solution. These operate in three ways:

As your combi boiler operates on mains pressure water we need to install an un vented cylinder. All solaressence® un vented cylinders are stainless steel and come with a 25 year warranty. An additional benefit of installing a solaressence® cylinder is that it each cylinder is custom-made for your home so can be manufactured to fit snugly into the correct space. These cylinders are also much more highly insulated so you lose less energy with the heat escaping. It must be noted that there must be some where in your home to house the cylinder, an old airing cupboard, garage or loft space.

Substantial savings on your hot water costs can be made because the energy you receive from the solar system into your hot water supply displaces the energy your boiler would otherwise have had to produce. Plus you have the ability to upgrade at any time in the future to a dual system should you install a new condensing or system boiler.

how it works
The solar collectors u begin to rise in temperature. The temperature differential controller SE3 v monitors the difference between the collector and your new un vented { cylinder with highly accurate temperature sensors y . When the temperature of the collectors rises more then 6-8 degrees above that of the water cylinder the controller turns the solar pump w on. This creates circulation within the sealed solar circuit z which is made of pre-insulated stainless steel  duo-flex pipe containing tyfocor (solar grade anti-freeze) heat transfer fluid.  As you use hot water at your taps this is replaced as described above, this diagram show the combi valve solution. Your boiler x should still be on similar settings as before which according to your timing settings will boost the temperature of your hot water if required. The need for your boiler to boost the hot water will depend on the time of the year, the amount of solar availability, and your hot water needs. Sometimes it will need to boost, sometimes it will not. Again it must be remembered that if your boiler does need to boost the temperature, it is just that, a boost. The energy you receive at your taps from the solar system displaces the energy your boiler would otherwise have had to produce whether your boiler still has to fire up to boost or not.
This transfer of heat from the solar circuit to the cylinder has the effect of taking the heat out of the collectors u and their temperature drops again. When their temperature has dropped to only 2 degrees above the water cylinder the temperature differential controller SE3 v turns off your solar pump w.  The whole process then simply starts again. So in essence the system transfers the heat from the collectors to your storage cylinder in many short bursts throughout the day.
